Congratulations to Executive Director, Donna Brown, on her retirement. Donna came to the Authority in May of 2011. From there she developed and executed the plan to consolidate four independent dispatch centers into one regional consolidated center. The consolidated center (New River Valley Emergency Communications Regional Authority) provides public safety communications and dispatch services for police, fire, and rescue in the Towns of Christiansburg and Blacksburg, Montgomery County, and the campus of Virginia Tech. The center went live June of 2016.
Donna started her career with the Salem, VA Police Department as a dispatcher for 3 years then was promoted to communications supervisor, where she served an additional 17 years. She then went to work for VITA (Virginia Information Technologies Agency) where she served as Regional Public Safety Communications Coordinator. She worked with agencies across Southwest Virginia to plan and implement various technologies, including every facet of emergency communications.
