The New River Valley Emergency Communications Regional Authority recognizes Whitney Bedwell, who received a Life Saver pin today, for being instrumental in a cardiac arrest call at the New River Valley Mall on December 26, 2018. Lifesaving CPR instructions were provided via our EMD protocols through ProQA and the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch.
The patient was given CPR by his wife via Whitney’s instructions until Police and EMS crews took over. These important first moments, as well as, the other dispatchers who sent Police and EMS highlight the fact that our Emergency Communications Officers are truly First Responders. The patient walked out of the hospital a few days later.
